Discovering the Buzz: Inside Our Gold Residential in Beekeeping

Course dates: 9–13 July

Beekeeping isn't just about honey—it's about harmony, sustainability, and connection to nature. This July, from the 9th to the 13th, we’ll be hosting our Gold Residential in Beekeeping, a unique and rewarding experience for young people working toward their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Set in a peaceful rural setting near the coast, this five-day residential will bring together participants from across the country to learn the art and science of beekeeping. Through hands-on workshops, expert-led sessions, and plenty of time with the bees themselves, this course is designed to inspire, challenge, and connect.

What to Expect

Under the guidance of experienced beekeepers, participants will:

  • Learn how to care for and manage a hive

  • Understand bee anatomy, behavior, and colony structure

  • Extract honey and learn about its journey from flower to jar

  • Explore issues around sustainability, pollinators, and the environment

  • Gain practical skills like hive construction, safety procedures, and teamwork

And yes—you’ll be wearing a full bee suit!

More Than Just Beekeeping

This Gold Residential isn’t only about learning a new skill. It’s also about meeting new people, growing in confidence, and doing something meaningful and memorable. Each day offers the chance to reflect, share, and build connections—not just with the bees, but with each other.

Expect buzzing hives, laughter, coastal fun, and maybe even a newfound love for our tiny pollinating heroes.

Who Can Join?

This residential is open to anyone completing the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award who is looking for a fun, hands-on, and educational residential experience. No previous beekeeping experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to get stuck in.
